What is included in birth doula support?

How does communication work?
I am available via text and email for non-urgent questions throughout your pregnancy, with 24/7 on-call availability starting at 38 weeks.
Is postpartum care included?
Absolutely. I include a home visit to aid your healing and newborn adjustment, with options to add more postpartum support as needed.
What are your qualifications?
I am a birth doula currently completing my certification through Childbirth International, with a commitment to ongoing education. I am CPR and NRP certified and have specialized experience supporting home births. I am also connected with a strong network of midwives and perinatal professionals across mid-Michigan.
Do you support hospital births?
Absolutely. I'm happy to support your birth wherever you feel safest.
Can a doula replace a midwife?
No, doulas provide emotional and physical support, while midwives handle medical care. We work as a team for your safety.
When is the best time to book?
Most parents book during their second trimester (13-20 weeks) to ensure availability and allow ample time for prenatal visits.
What happens during labor?
I provide physical comfort measures, emotional grounding, and help facilitate a calm environment geared toward your birth preferences.
Do you accept insurance?
I do not bill insurance directly. Many families are able to use HSA or FSA funds, and I’m happy to provide an invoice you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.
Do you have a backup doula?
Yes. In the rare event that I am unexpectedly unavailable, I work with a trusted network of backup doulas so you are never without continuous support.
What if my labor is very long?
I stay with you throughout active labor, regardless of length, ensuring you always have a steady pillar of support.
Do you replace my husband or partner?
Never. My role is to support both you and your partner. I help your partner feel confident, involved, and supported so they can be as present as possible during your birth.
